Book club almost imploded over a $4 pumpkin spice candle

Our October pick was a thriller, but the real fight started when Karen lit a candle from HomeGoods and swore it smelled like 'the key evidence' in chapter 14, and then the whole group split into pro-candle and anti-candle factions for 45 minutes. Has anyone else had a member's random prop derail the actual discussion, or are we just uniquely dramatic?
