That $90 "literary" book club subscription was a waste for our group
Last fall I convinced our club to try one of those monthly curated book subscriptions that picks titles based on your group's taste. Cost us $90 for three months, and every single pick flopped. One was a dense historical novel that nobody finished, another was a memoir that read like a LinkedIn post, and the third was a thriller with twists we all saw coming a mile away. We ended up arguing more about the subscription fee than the books themselves, which killed the fun. Meanwhile, the free library hold list and a quick poll among members has given us better picks for the last six months. Has anyone else had better luck with those services, or are we just too picky as a group?
