DAE pick a book for club that everyone hated and the debate was a total flop?
I chose a popular award-winner for our last meeting, thinking it would spark good discussion. Instead, everyone found it boring and we had nothing to say, so the debate died fast. What do you do when a book choice kills the discussion?

Was it one of those books that wins awards for being important instead of good? I've found those can turn a book club into a group nap real fast. Next time maybe just pick a book with a murder in it, even a bad one gives people something to argue about. At least the debate would be over who did it, instead of why we're all still awake.

What made you pick it? I used to assume any award winner would work, but now I see some just don't connect with a group.

Ask which award-winner you picked... I've found some of those can be really hit or miss. What did people say made it boring, was it the pacing or the characters? Maybe next time you could have a backup question list to jumpstart talk if it dies down.
