DAE realize they were picking the wrong book club pick every single time?
I run a book club here in Boise with 9 people and every month I kept picking the long literary fiction books because I thought that made us look serious. Last month I picked a 600 page novel and only 3 people finished it, so the talk died in 15 minutes and we just ate chips. Then Dana said maybe we should try shorter books or mix in a thriller once in a while. We tried a 280 page mystery the next time and everyone actually read it and we argued for 2 hours about the ending. Turns out I was picking books to feel smart, not to get people talking. Anyone else notice their group does way better with shorter picks, or is that just mine?
