Dropped $85 on a leather bookmark that kept sliding out, now I use a receipt

Our book club does a potluck and discussion every month at someone's house. Last month I got tired of losing my place and bought one of those fancy metal and leather bookmarks from a shop downtown for $85. It looked great on my shelf, but within two days it fell out of my paperback twice. The thing was too heavy and the little magnet did nothing for a flex cover. So now I fold a grocery receipt in half and it stays put perfectly. Cost me zero dollars. Has anyone else shelled out for a fancy reading gadget and gone right back to something dumb?
