Finally visited that famous indie bookstore in Portland and walked out after 10 minutes
Everyone raves about Powell's but I felt like I was in a maze. Overwhelming layout, no clear sections for fiction vs non fiction. Staff was nice but I couldn't find a single book I wanted in under 15 minutes. Anyone else think it's overrated for browsing?

That place is way better if you go knowing exactly what you want first.

My husband and I learned that the hard way. We wandered in there once without a plan and got totally overwhelmed by all the choices. Now I always look at the menu online before we go and pick two or three things I'm deciding between. That way we can get in and out without standing there like deer in headlights.
