Hit 50 book club meetings last night without missing a single one

I realized after our meeting last night that I've been going to the same book club for 5 years now and never skipped a gathering. That's 50 meetings, 50 books, and around 150 hours of talking about fiction. The weird milestone that got me was when I counted up how many books I actually DISLIKED but ended up loving by the end because of the group conversations. There were 12 books I would have DNF'd on my own that became favorites after debate. Has anyone else tracked their attendance numbers and noticed a pattern like that?

That book you hated at first" thing is so real. My friend Anna stuck with a book she was ready to throw across the room. Turned out the group was like wait, the narrator is actually lying the whole time? She never caught that on her own. Now it's one of her favorites. She talks about it constantly.

ha, your friend Anna sounds like she owes that whole group a thank you card. nothing like a bunch of strangers on the internet to point out you missed the main plot twist. i've been there though, stuck with a book everyone swore was genius and i was about to use it as a doorstop. then someone was like "oh you didn't notice the unreliable narrator?" and suddenly i felt like the world's least observant detective. it's humbling but also kind of funny when you realize you were the last one to the party.
