I bought a $25 set of character motivation cards for our book club's pick, and it completely saved our discussion.

My book club was stuck on a character's weird choices last month. Those little cards gave us five different angles we never thought of, like hidden fears or past debts. It went from awkward silence to everyone talking over each other. Totally worth the twenty bucks for that kind of spark.

Twenty bucks for some cards to talk about a book seems wild to me. It's just a story, not a therapy session. Can't people just say what they thought and move on? Feels like making a simple thing way too serious.

Twenty bucks sounds like a lot until you've sat through a book club with people staring at their phones. My group used those cards once and it was like watching a roof leak finally get patched. People actually argued about motivations instead of just nodding along. Not gonna lie, I probably spent twenty dollars on worse things this week, like that gas station burrito I deeply regret. If it keeps the conversation rolling and saves us from awkward silences, I'd call it cheap therapy.
