My book club pick about time travel flopped hard last Thursday
I brought a dense literary novel with complex timelines to our group meeting and 10 people just stared at me. Nobody finished it because the non-linear chapters were too confusing to follow. Has anyone else had to scrap their choice mid-discussion because it was just too much for casual readers?

Yeah "too much for casual readers" hits the nail on the head. It's wild how people think complex = good, but in reality most folks just want a story that doesn't feel like homework. I've noticed this same pattern with movies too - my buddies always pick these artsy flicks with five different timelines and then everyone's lost by the first twenty minutes. Sometimes simple is better, like how a basic burger beats a fancy one with weird toppings every time.

See, I actually love that kind of challenge... a book that makes me work feels more rewarding in the end, like figuring out a puzzle. Sometimes the confusion is part of the fun, you know?
