Our club almost split over reading the book before the movie, and the before group won by a mile
Two summers back in Portland, our club tried something new where half of us read the pick cold and half watched the film version first to compare. The cold readers showed up with 3 pages of notes and actual questions, while the movie-first crowd just kept saying 'the book did it better' without any real details. Eight of the twelve members admitted they skimmed the last 100 pages because the film gave away the ending for them. We now vote on a strict no-trailers rule at the start of each cycle. Has any club out there made screen-first reading work, or is this just how it goes?
