Our club read 14 books and argued through all but 3, so I counted the fights
Last week I sat down with a notebook and went back through our club log since January. Out of 14 picks we had a real argument on 11 of them, and the 3 quiet ones were all under 250 pages. The pattern hit me: the short books got a shrug, the long messy ones got us going for an hour past closing. Our worst night was over a 600 page family saga at the diner on Route 9, and we got kicked out at 10:40. So now I'm pushing for longer picks, but half the group says they don't have the time. How do you all get a club of 9 people to agree on book length without somebody quitting?
