Shoutout to the lady in my book club who brought 14 sticky notes to one chapter and made me rethink the whole book
I used to show up to book club with nothing but vibes and a half remembered plot, and last month in Denver I got called out for saying a character "felt off" without one page number to back it up. Now I mark at least 5 spots per book, and even though my copy of the novel looks like a paper craft project, the talks are way better. How do you all keep track of stuff while reading, do you write in the margins or use a notebook?
Had a buddy in Austin who tried the margin thing and went way too hard. Every page had arrows and stars and little notes like "this guy sucks" and by the end he couldn't even read his own book anymore. He switched to a cheap notebook and just wrote down page numbers and like three words per note. Said it saved him. Still brings it to meetings and flips through it like he's some kind of scholar. The rest of us are lucky if we remember who the murderer was.
