Tried reading a popular thriller my book club picked and hated every page

Ngl, I was so excited for The Midnight Library because everyone raved about it. But after 50 pages I was bored out of my mind and DNF'd it for the first time ever. The whole premise felt forced and the main character's voice just didn't click with me. My book club spent an hour debating if it was deep or just pretentious. Has anyone else bailed on a hyped book mid-chapter?

Book club drama over a book you hate is almost better than the actual reading part. At least you got a good argument out of it.

Wait so I'm not the only one who felt that way about The Midnight Library? My neighbor practically shoved it into my hands saying it would change my life. I got maybe 30 pages in and started eyeballing my phone every two minutes. Made me wonder if I was missing something or if everyone was just pretending to love it. The whole parallel lives thing felt like a gimmick from the start. Book club debates about books like that are honestly more fun than the actual reading part though.
