Update: the guy at my Wednesday club meeting called a 600 page novel 'self indulgent' and three people walked out
He dropped that line about halfway through our meeting at the library on 5th and I swear the room went cold, so now I need to know if other clubs just let one person's hot take blow things up like that or if you all have some way to reel it back in.

Oh man, that kinda thing is so wild to me. Honestly it might not even be about the book, some people just get a kick out of watching a room react and the silence is the payoff. Real question is whether the folks who walked out come back next week or just quietly quit.
