Got caught in a surprise downpour last weekend and my cheap tarp trick saved the trip
We were setting up at a site in the Blue Ridge Mountains when the sky opened up. My buddy's fancy rain fly was still packed away, so I grabbed a basic 8x10 poly tarp from my truck bed and rigged it over the picnic table with some paracord in about five minutes. It kept our gear and cooking area totally dry for the whole two-hour storm. Anyone have a better quick-fix for unexpected rain when your main shelter isn't ready?

Honestly, that tarp move is a total lifesaver in a pinch. Tbh I've done the same thing more times than I can count when the weather turns fast. Nothing beats a simple piece of plastic and some cord.

Yeah, that plastic tarp trick works until a real wind kicks up. Seen a few of those shred into confetti when things get rough. A cheap poly tarp from the hardware store holds up way better for just a few bucks more. Still simple, but it won't bail on you when you need it most.
