My uncle's bear bag advice nearly cost me my whole food supply
My uncle swore by hanging food with a 50 foot rope and a carabiner, said bear canisters were for tourists. So last month at Shenandoah I tied the bag to a low branch, about 8 feet up, because I couldn't throw higher after 3 tries. Woke up to a shredded bag and my trail mix scattered everywhere, no bear even showed up, just raccoons. I mean, he meant well, but has anyone else had luck with the PCT method vs just giving in and buying a canister?
