Pro tip: always pack a spare tent pole sleeve, learned that the hard way in the Smokies.

A sudden gust snapped a pole section during a downpour, but I had a repair sleeve from an old kit and got us dry in about twenty minutes. What's the most creative gear fix you've pulled off in a pinch?

That "creative gear fix in a pinch" idea is everywhere once you start looking. It's not just camping. It's using a paperclip for a broken glasses arm or a shoelace to tie a car trunk shut. Modern stuff is fragile, and we're all just one snap away from having to get clever with whatever junk is in our bag. Makes you wonder if the real survival skill is just looking at things a little differently.

Honestly I get the idea but I feel like it lets companies off the hook. My sleeping pad valve cracked last year, a known flaw, and my "creative fix" was just dealing with a slow leak all night. Sometimes the junk in your bag isn't a tool, it's just more junk from stuff that shouldn't break so easy.

Totally agree with @oliverw46 about seeing things differently. I once used a plastic bread bag and duct tape to patch a torn rain jacket seam on a hike. It's wild how often the fix is just looking at the junk in your pocket and seeing a tool instead.
