Question about tent footprint sizing

I spent a whole afternoon in my backyard trying to get a generic footprint to fit my Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2. The problem was the corners, they just would not line up right. It took me about 3 hours of moving it around before I gave up and ordered the exact one from the brand. Has anyone else had this much trouble with a third party footprint?

So you spent three hours fighting with a tarp in your backyard? Sounds like the tent was just holding out for the brand-name ransom money.

Ugh, that sounds so familiar. I tried the same thing with my old tent, cutting a cheap tarp to size. I mean, it seemed fine until a windy night when it shifted and pooled water right under my sleeping pad. Ended up with a wet spot. After that, I just bit the bullet and got the real footprint. It clips right in, no fuss. Sometimes the generic stuff just isn't worth the headache.

Guess the universe really wanted you to buy the fancy one.
