Serious question, why does everyone act like synthetic sleeping bags are always better than down?
I was up in the Smokies last October and it dropped to 28 degrees. Buddy of mine had a synthetic 20 degree bag that weighed like 4 pounds and barely kept him warm. Meanwhile my old down bag from 2018 was lighter and I actually slept okay. I get that down is useless when wet, but how often are you really soaking your sleeping bag on a normal trip? Seems like people write off down without actually testing both in real conditions. Am I missing something or is synthetic just easier to market?

Read an article saying modern down bags have water resistant coatings now too lol.

@ray_patel27 Yeah but that coating wears off fast, then you're stuck with wet feathers that take forever to dry.
