Swapped my $200 Amazon sleeping pad for a $45 foam one at a garage sale in Reno, never going back
Two summers ago I was freezing my butt off every night on an inflatable pad that kept losing air by 3am. Picked up a beat up closed cell foam pad at a garage sale in Reno for $45 and used it for 14 nights straight in the Sierra. My back pain went away and I stopped waking up shivering because the foam doesn't lose heat like air does. Anyone else ditched inflatables for foam or am I the only one sleeping on a fancy yoga mat now?
Read somewhere that air pads pull heat away from your body cause the air moves around inside, while foam traps it. Been meaning to try one of those cheap egg carton ones from Walmart myself. My inflatable has left me on the cold ground at 2am more times than I can count.
