That $80 stove saved my weekend after my Jetboil failed at Big Bend

Went down to Big Bend last month and my old stove wouldn't light no matter what I did. I had grabbed a cheap $80 Camp Chef burner on a whim from the store that morning and it fired up first try in 40 degree wind. Anyone else had a random backup piece of gear save a whole trip like that?

The "fired up first try" part is what gets me. Nothing worse than gear failing when you actually need it. Ive had a $20 backup lantern save a whole night after my nice one died, so I feel you. Cheap stuff can be sketchy but sometimes it just works when the fancy stuff doesnt. Honestly at this point I keep a basic backup of everything important, not worth the risk. Big Bend wind is no joke either, glad that burner held up.
