That week in the Tetons when my new sleeping pad saved the trip
Got a fancy inflatable pad for a late September trip, but the third night the temperature dropped to 22 degrees and I woke up freezing because the R-value rating was way off. Ended up having to layer every piece of clothing I had under me just to get back to sleep. Has anyone else had a gear spec totally fail them when it really counted?

Which brand's R-value rating was so far off in your experience?

Oh man, don't get me started... I bought some budget foam board that claimed an R-5 and it felt more like a stiff piece of cardboard. My garage was still freezing. Pretty sure the real test was done in direct sunlight on a summer day or something. Learned my lesson about trusting the cheap stuff the hard way.
