Came clean about fake conspiracy theories in the Tupelo forum, got shredded

Back in 2019 I used to post wild stuff about chemtrails in our local Tupelo Facebook group, just to mess with people. One night I admitted it was all made up, figured folks would laugh it off. Instead they tore into me for wasting everyone's time, and one guy said I was the reason nobody trusts real questions anymore. That's when it hit me that I was doing the whole debate thing wrong, treating it like a game instead of actually listening. Anybody else have a moment where they realized they were the problem in a forum like that?

Honestly, are people really that hurt over some jokes from years ago? Sounds like they just needed something to be mad about that day. Folks love to act like one dumb post ruins the whole internet for them, but they probably forgot about it by the next week anyway. You admitted what you did, which is more than most people bother with around here. Maybe they should save the outrage for the actual fake stuff that gets spread around on purpose.
