From my experience, dodging a chemtrails conversation felt like a spy mission
At a family picnic, my aunt started going on about chemtrails. I didn't want to start a fight, so I just nodded along. Later, I felt bad for not saying anything, but then she offered me extra potato salad. In my view, sometimes peace is worth a little white lie.

That point about peace being worth a white lie is so true. But how often do we trade our honesty for comfort without even realizing it?

My friend pretended to like her in laws awful cooking for years, just to keep things calm. She only admitted it after they switched to ordering takeout.

Family gatherings need a survival guide for these exact moments. I've found changing the subject to something you both enjoy works better than fake agreeing. Like @patel.barbara said, we do trade honesty for comfort a lot. The real trick is knowing which battles are about facts and which are just about keeping the peace over potato salad.
