My neighbor tried to convince me the moon landing was faked at a block party

This happened last summer at our street's annual barbecue. He cornered me by the grill and said, 'You know, the flag shouldn't wave in a vacuum.' He went on for about 15 minutes about studio lights and shadows. I just kept flipping burgers and nodding. Has anyone else had a normal day totally derailed by a conspiracy theory?

Man, I've learned the hard way that just nodding makes them think you agree. The trick is to ask one simple question about their theory that they can't answer, like "What about the footage from the Japanese probe that showed the landing sites?" then change the subject to the potato salad. Most of them just want to feel smart and move on once you don't feed into it.

That flag waving thing is such a classic line lol. It feels like these theories have totally jumped from the internet into real life. I get people trying to tell me wild stuff at the grocery store now. It's like a normal chat can't happen without someone dropping a "fact" they saw in a youtube video. Makes you just want to nod and slowly back away.

Doubt it's that deep. People just like to talk.
