The 2 AM rabbit hole on YouTube about floor safes being fake hiding spots

I dug into this after my uncle swore his 1960s floor safe was completely empty, but I found a police report from 1977 matching his address that listed a stolen coin collection inside, and then the safe vanished during a renovation - has anyone else run into weird gaps in property records for old security installs?

Wait, you actually found a police report that lined up with your uncle's story? I used to roll my eyes at the whole "floor safes are fake" thing, figured it was just internet paranoia. But that bit about the safe vanishing during a renovation gives me the creeps. It makes you wonder how many of those old installs just got quietly ripped out when someone realized there was a paper trail. I'm going to have to dig into my grandma's property records next time I'm over there, your mileage may vary but this definitely changed my mind.

Hold up @milac37, did your grandma ever mention if she had a house built before the 70s? Thats when the whole floor safe thing was big, at least around here. I saw a post about a dude who found one under his parents carpet and the police report mentioned the original owner was a bookie or something shady. Makes you think how many of those "mysterious holes" people find during renos are just cleaned up evidence. Seriously check those property records, I bet theres a deed or permit for it somewhere.
