Bought a fancy soldering station for $150 and it melted my third pedal build...

Picked up a TS100 iron after my cheap one kept overheating, but I didn't check the tip compatibility and ended up frying a whole fuzz circuit board. Has anyone else here got burned by a gear upgrade that seemed like a good idea at the time?

Yeah, the TS100 is a good iron but the tip situation is a trap for sure, I learned that one the hard way with a messed up vero board. That $150 station probably just needs a quick tip swap and some temp dialing down, most of those units come set way too hot from the factory. Check the manufacturer's tip chart before you plug anything in next time, it'll save you a whole lot of frustration.

Did you try using a lower temp tip like a chisel instead of the default conical? I had the same problem with a station that was burning pads left and right, switched to a BCM2 tip and turned it down to 315C, never looked back. Honestly dialing in the iron to the tip size made all the difference for me.
