Guy at the hardware store in Akron told me to stop guessing resistor values, and he was right
I was in the electronics aisle at the Akron hardware store last Saturday grabbing a pack of 10k resistors when this older guy next to me asked what I was building. I told him a fuzz pedal and admitted I'd been just eyeballing values by color bands instead of checking them with a meter. He laughed and pulled out a little multimeter from his pocket, said he'd fried 3 boards back in the day doing the same thing. I went home and tested every resistor in my bin, and 4 of them were way off from what the bands said. The pedal fired up on the first try after that. So now I check everything before it goes in, takes like 2 extra minutes. Any of you ever get burned by trusting the color bands?
