My first vero board build caught fire on a Wednesday afternoon - that was a rough one.
I was testing a simple fuzz circuit I copied from a forum post and forgot to double check my power rail polarity, and the smoke came out of a cap in under 10 seconds, has anyone else had a build go up in flames like that?

Oh man that is rough. A friend of mine had a similar thing happen with a tube screamer clone he was building. He wired the 9 volt backwards and a little resistor just popped like a firecracker and there was a tiny scorch mark on his desk. The smell of burnt electronics is something you never forget. It's scary how fast things can go wrong when power gets involved. Good thing you caught it quick though before it spread or anything.

Eh, honestly I think people overreact to this stuff. A little pop and some smoke is basically a rite of passage in electronics, it's not like the whole house went up. I've had parts blow and just shrugged, desoldered the dead bit, and moved on.
