Unpopular opinion: a $2 power supply cap from a dead microwave beats the $12 'audio grade' one every time
I pulled a 4700uF 35V cap out of a curbside microwave in Sacramento six months ago and dropped it into a Big Muff clone, and it's still dead quiet on my bench. Half the forums say you're asking for hum and a blown board pulling parts from junk, but the other half says voltage rating and ESR are the only numbers that matter, not the sticker price. So do you source caps from dead appliances or do you pay the markup, and did it ever bite you?
