Appreciation post: Watching a guy at the coffee shop yesterday fix his phone screen with a $15 kit from a mall kiosk.

He had the whole thing done in under 20 minutes, which made me realize I don't need to pay a shop $100 for a simple screen swap anymore, so has anyone else tried one of those DIY kits and had it actually work out?

Wait, is that really all it takes? I mean I've always been scared to try because I'm not good with tiny parts. But seeing someone just do it at a table makes it seem way less like a big deal. Maybe it's just me but I'd probably still mess it up and get glue everywhere. Still, saving that much cash is pretty tempting if you have a steady hand.

Honestly used to think those kits were a total scam waiting to happen. Watched my cousin replace his iPad screen last month with one, and it looked so messy I swore I'd never try. But seeing that guy just calmly do it with a few tools changed my whole view. It seems way more about patience than some special skill. Might actually grab a kit next time my screen cracks.
