My sister swore by the 'freeze your smart speaker' trick to fix a weird hum
She told me to put my Echo Dot in a ziplock bag and stick it in the freezer for 20 minutes when it started making a constant low buzzing sound. I thought it was the dumbest gadget advice ever, but I was desperate. After the 20 minutes were up, I plugged it back in and the hum was completely gone. It's been quiet for about 4 months now. Has anyone else had to do something this weird to fix a gadget, or was my sister just messing with me?

Tried that once with an old router that kept dropping signal. I mean, I didn't use a bag, just shoved the whole thing in next to the frozen peas. It worked for like a week, then it just died completely. Maybe I left it in too long, idk. Felt pretty dumb explaining to my ISP that I'd basically given it frostbite.

Totally get that, @leoward. I did the same thing to a gaming controller that kept sticking. The cold trick fixed it for a few days, but then the buttons just stopped working forever. Condensation must have killed it for good.
